Earth music is cool. We know that to be a fact because so many human beings like Earth music, thus making it cool. But what about space music? Space music is a largely untapped market, mostly because we haven’t met many extraterrestrial musicians. Though, even if we‘d met countless musical aliens, Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes would probably still be the most talented of the bunch.

Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes is a group of seven woodwind-playing Bith who make their home at the Mos Eisley Cantina, a place in which arms get chopped off, blue aliens get shot, and — most importantly — great tunes get played. Their silky smooth woodwind tones electrify the room as soon as the first notes hit, leading to an almost-immediate recognition when anyone hears the beginning of a Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes song. The band has had such a major impact on pop culture, so it’s about time we put their entire discography into perspective. So without further ado, here is every Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes song, ranked.

“Cantina Band” (1977)

Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes play “Cantina Band” at the Mos Eisley Cantina. (1977)

Truly ahead of its time, “Cantina Band” served as the breakout hit for Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes. Perhaps it was a case of “right place, right time” or perhaps it was a case of “great song, great band.” “Cantina Band” really opened the door for Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes and officially closed the door on who the best woodwind-playing Bith in the galaxy actually were. All competitors were deemed irrelevant and inferior due to the sheer talent, suave, and prowess that the group showed on this track. With “Cantina Band” under their belt as their debut song, the stage was set for Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes to take over the world.

Well, that’s it! Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes have an impressively spotless discography, an accomplishment that no other band can claim. There are plenty of other bands with great catalogs, but nobody has a perfect catalog except for Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes. They are not only the best “space band” of all time; they could perhaps be the best band of all time overall.
